As we have heard earlier today (Saturday 2nd February), the (now former) Labour MP Andrew Gwynne (Gorton and Denton, Greater Manchester) has been dismissed from the party for sending some fairly vile, despicable messages on a WhatsApp group, in which he wishes death on a local constituent who wrote to a Councillor asking a question about bin collections.
Gwynne was quick to issue an apology for his disgusting behaviour, which translates as an apology not for what he said, but more for getting caught. Unfortunately, I can’t help but feel this is the attitude the majority of politicians hold against the very members of the public who vote them in. An attitude of superiority, an attitude that they believe they are better than us and an attitude that they are so up themselves and think they are something they’re not.
Luckily, in this case Gwynne has been caught out, along with other local Councillors who were in this WhatsApp group (one of which is Gwynne’s wife Allison). With any luck, that’s their careers down the pan. Hopefully more of these types of scumbags follow. It’s going to take a long time and a lot of work and effort to weed out parliament of these wastes of oxygen, and it’s probably something that will never be achieved, but we have to start somewhere. Hopefully we see more following Gwynne out of the door.
Onto the messages in question. They have been posted to a local Facebook group. The messages are in their original form and appear to have been printed out. I have published them here, with private phone numbers redacted.
A few other concerning quotes from the group can be seen in the messages, including one from Gwynne’s wife Allison who states “Kids in Denton have always enjoyed swimming in street rubbish/raw sewage“. Makes sense that you would have one scumbag married to another scumbag.
With any luck, her and the rest of this disgusting posse will be in the same amount of hot water and never be allowed in a public facing role again.
