Hartlepool Borough Council has this week refused permission to convert the premises at 117 York Road into a nightclub, citing a number of concerns. The application was submitted by applicant, Ashley Johns, in February this year before being validated in May.
The council made its decision on Thursday (7th November) issuing a full refusal to the applicant. Comments from local residents were largely negative towards the application citing potentially antisocial behaviour issues, which is already a major concern in the area.
Issuing a refusal for the application, Hartlepool Borough Council cited impact on nearby neighbouring properties in terms of noise pollution, lack of suitable waste storage provision leading to health and safety concerns including risk of fire as well as a potential increase in crime and the fear of crime.
The shopfront currently remains vacant. The last use of the unit was the Svape Shop in 2022.
All documents and responses for the application can be viewed on the Hartlepool Borough Council Planning Portal under H/2024/0053.
